Library

The National Firearms Museum Library is open to the public by advance appointment from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. It is located on the second floor of the NRA's headquarters building. Ask at the front desk at the museum to have someone escort you to the library.

The library was created for research purposes as well as for helping people to educate themselves about weapons and firearms. The Library has books on a variety of subjects, including types of firearms, history of arms and armor, arms around the world, hunting, law enforcement, museum conservation, and different animal behaviors.

At this time, we do not have the library's catalogue online, but we plan on having it available online soon.

If you have any questions about the library, please call us at (703) 267-1603.

Lyman, in small pieces
Lyman woodcuts donated by NRA member Hugh D. Key.

The National Firearms Museum is always seeking material that helps tell the stories associated with firearms in America. Sometimes a donation comes to us in many small packages.

A recent donation from NRA member Hugh D. Key will now allow the museum to represent reloading and bullet molds in a new light. Key, a former Lyman employee, gave the NFM his collection of over 300 woodcuts that document the Lyman company's vast varieties of bullet molds, several sales catalogs, and over fifty metal plates used in printing company newspaper advertising. The small woodcuts depict the original book artwork for bullet molds produced by Lyman over the decades and many also include a representative sample bullet cast in the mold. The larger metal plates comprise an archive of period advertising by one of America's premier reloading tool companies.

Assistant Curator/Registrar Karin Johnston has catalogued and organized the extensive collection of Lyman material. For researchers seeking to document the story of Lyman's manufacturing history, this collection will provide a special resource.
